How To Pray

Mother Theresa was once asked about her prayer life.

The interviewer asked, “When you pray, what do you say to God?”

Mother Teresa replied, “I don’t talk, I simply listen.”

Believing he understood what she had just said, the interviewer next asked, “Ah, then what is it that God says to you when you pray?”

Mother Teresa replied, “He also doesn’t talk. He also simply listens.”

There was a long silence, with the interviewer seeming a bit confused and not knowing what to ask next. Finally Mother Teresa breaks the silence by saying, “If you can’t understand the meaning of what I’ve just said, I’m sorry but there’s no way I can explain it any better.”

Have you ever been in love? or have you seen people who are in love behave? they act strange to say the least:

When you’re in love with a person and you’re on the phone with them… you’ve just spent the past 4 hours talking and yapping away… after 3-4 hours of talking there’s not much else to say, both of your mouthes are dry. However, neither one of you can hang up the phone… there’s a silence on the line; but it’s not awkward. You’re both smiling at the end of the each line and you’re just listening to each other listening.

This is prayer!

When you’re so in love with God, so in tune with God that you just don’t want to hang up on Him and God doesn’t want to hang up on you. When you’ve ran out of things to say, but you want to remain in His company so you just stay there and listen to God listening to you. You’re both so in love with each other that neither party wants to hang up the phone… and you get the classic scenario

You: “No, you hang up…”

God: “No, you hang up…”

No one wants to hang up first, this is love this is love and this is prayer!
